THE RECLAIMER: IT'S TIME FOR SOME R&R!
IT’S TIME FOR SOME R&R (RECLAIM & RENEWAL)
Hello my friends! It’s been a busy week in the New Democratic sphere, and I’m excited to update you all on what’s going on.
This past Thursday, former MP’s Peter Julian, Matthew Green, along with Burnaby activist, Doris Mah came to Parliament Hill for a press conference announcing the NDP Renewal Project (Renewal). This project will be focussed on connecting with the grassroots, and preparing resolutions to rebuild, renew, and reclaim the party at the National Convention in Winnipeg in March 2026.
In the 1993 Federal Election, the NDP saw a similar election defeat as it did last April, dropping from 43 to 9 seats and losing official party status. The aftermath of that defeat led to a 6 month renewal process that focussed on connecting with grassroots members all across the country to reshape party policy that Julian played a key role in. This allowed a rebuild of the NDP throughout the 90s, and led to the rise of leaders such as Alexa McDonough and Jack Layton, who respectively brought the party up to 21 seats, regaining official party status, and 103 seats, becoming the Official Opposition.
We’re excited to collaborate with the NDP Renewal Project in the days, weeks, and months to come.

SASKATCHEWAN TOWNHALLS WERE A SUCCESS!
Last week, we had our Saskatchewan Townhalls led by our amazing regional organizing team in Saskatchewan. New Democrats from all over Saskatchewan came together to reflect on the last election, and talk about how we can move forward.
Special thank you to our guest speakers Rachel Loewen-Walker, the 2025 Federal NDP Candidate for Saskatoon West, and former NDP MLA for Saskatoon Nutana, Cathay Sproule.
And of course, massive thanks to our Saskatchewan regional organizers, Etta Love, Jenna Straf, and Madison Cooke for putting the town halls together!
THANK YOU TO THE TENACIOUS SEVEN
In other news, the seven NDP MP’s, otherwise dubbed as the “survivors" are working hard to deliver results.
Among them is Jenny Kwan, MP for Vancouver East, who earlier this month, on September 19th, tabled a bill to close the loophole of Canada sending arms to Israel, via the United States. Canada sends billions worth of weapons across our southern border every year, some of which continue onto Israel.
Kwan looks to close the loophole, and ensure that Canada has a complete arms embargo against Israel.

In addition, Alexandre Boulerice, MP for Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, announced the party’s intention to put an end to Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code, which gives the government the ability to force striking workers back to work.

It’s good to see our remaining NDP MP’s continue to fight the good fight.
LEADERSHIP UPDATES
In terms of the leadership race, according to our sources, it’s looking like the leadership race will have at least 4 candidates. You may have heard that earlier this week, Avi Lewis, announced his campaign, and you should expect to see other candidates launch their campaigns in the coming days, weeks, and months.
Candidates are advised to not make their campaign public until they’ve received official approval from both the upper management of the party, and Elections Canada.
We’ll continue to keep you up to date with the leadership race.
In solidarity,
Keith de Silvia-Legault
